Tier-I was created to equip young people with the tools they need to better understand sustainable energy, and to remove the immediate barriers such as a lack of education and engagement with principles of sustainability. Through a combination of approaches, including educational interventions and infrastructural transformation, the initiative aims to empower young people to become informed advocates and innovators in the field of clean energy. THe various elements of the project are outlined below.
The Bright Ideas Compendium, an original six-part handbook will introduce students to key concepts in renewable energy, and will form the basis for the Bright Minds Sessions, which will include engaging activities to walk students through the compendium. Armed with these insights and learning, students will then participate in the Tier-I Challenge to design low-cost, community-level energy solutions. The Challenge will be guided by the Tier-I Challenge Guidebook, a comprehensive guide detailing the challenge’s problem statement, tools for brainstorming, guidelines for the prototype, and instructions on how to create a proposal for an idea. Finally, the Bright Future Fundraiser will collect donations through a crowdfunding campaign, which will then be used to support the Brighter Tomorrow Installation of solar panels in locations within the Kochi Municipal Corporation.
Through the combination of these interventions, Tier-I hopes not only to offer marginalized communities with direct solutions like solar panels, but to empower their young people to create long-term changes.
